This product is a comprehensive fusion and perception software stack to support premium surround-view L2/L2+ ADAS highway assistance and 5-star NCAP 2025/GSR 2022 safety applications.

LeddarVision Surround (LVS-2+) is the latest low-level sensor fusion and perception product built on LeddarTech’s award-winning LeddarVision software. The LVS-2+ expands the company’s current product offering of the LeddarVision Front-Entry LVF-E and Front-High LVF-H. These products target entry- to premium-level ADAS applications.

The LVS-2+ efficiently extends the LVF front-view product family from a one-camera plus two to five-radar (1V2R-1V5R) sensor configuration to a five-camera plus five-radar (5V5R) configuration. This enhanced configuration supports ADAS functions such as traffic jam and highway assist applications, enabling automated lane changes, overtaking and extended speed range adaptive cruise control.

FAO, UNFPA, UN agencies join hands with Lao Red Cross in blood donation drive

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with the Lao Red Cross National Blood Transfusion Centre, the United Nations Volunteers and the Crowne Plaza last week organized a Blood Donation Drive to celebrate International Women’s Day 2023.

To ensure women’s lives are protected against maternal deaths due to excessive bleeding during and after delivery of their babies, a joint effort was formed to raise awareness among the UN agencies, Development Partners and Government agencies in the Lao PDR. The objective of the event was to increase the blood stores for the Blood Bank in the country thereby helping to reduce maternal mortality.

“As stated by UNFPA, and as many may be aware, the Blood Bank in the Lao PDR is running low on blood and plasma stocks posing challenges to reducing maternal mortality. Timely, safe and accessible blood supplies are critical when Caesarean Sections are required and even more so for postpartum hemorrhage (excessive bleeding during and after delivery), which is a leading cause of maternal deaths in the Lao PDR,” said Nasar Hayat, FAO Representative to the Lao PDR.

He emphasized that we see blood as the emblem of life; thus, giving blood means giving lives. This philosophy does support and showcase through the activities that FAO is undertaking. By mobilizing what we have strategically, in the forms of knowledge, know-how and resources and materials, we could ensure better production, better nutrition, better environment and better life for all. As part of the event, Nasar Hayat encouraged others who are in good health condition to consider donating their blood, as it is reported that one blood donation can help save up to three new lives.

During the course of the event, blood was collected from 60 healthy individuals ranging from Government counterparts, Development Partners, and the UN community.

China’s used car sales report strong expansion in February

China’s used automobile sales logged a robust rebound in February, driven by mounting demand and a strong market recovery after the Spring Festival, industry data showed.

Last month, about 1.46 million used vehicles changed hands in the country, up 35.48 percent from the same period last year, according to the China Automobile Dealers Association.

In the first two months of this year, more than 2.7 million second-hand vehicles were traded in China, up 5.68 percent year on year.

The used car market regained strong momentum in February, and pent-up demand will continue to bring great market opportunities, said the association, adding that China’s new policy on encouraging large-scale and standardized business operations in the sector will promote the healthy development of the market.

The association expressed optimism about the market’s future prospects and noted that as used car firms regain confidence, the market is expected to experience a gradual recovery.

Boao’s success spurs high-quality development of rural tourism

In the village of Paigang, everything bears testimony to the ancient fishery culture — old brick houses, historic ferry sites and shabby fishing boats.

Located in the township of Tanmen, south China’s Hainan Province, the obscure village of Paigang boasts up to 1,000 years of history.

About 10 km away, in the town of Boao, palm fronds flutter against the backdrop of the blue ocean, luxury hotels dot the skyline and cars shuttle down tree-lined boulevards. It is in this pleasant setting that the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) will hold its annual conference from March 28 to 31.

In recent years, thanks to the BFA, many villages in and near Boao have started to develop rural tourism, with homestays, bars and coffeehouses springing up to meet the growing demand. The village of Paigang is among those that have benefited from this boom.

“My homestay is running at full capacity these days,” said homestay owner Wu Shuxian. “Actually, our business has been quite good since the Spring Festival holiday.”

Business is “explosive” around the time of the BFA annual conference, Wu added.

“We not only offer accommodation, but also local food,” he said. “My dad helps cook, and he is an amazing chef. He can cook both spicy and non-spicy food.”

In 2017, local authorities in the city of Qionghai, which oversees Boao and Paigang, began helping to develop rural tourism in the village based on its fishing culture and history, combining activities such as fishing, food tasting and village tours for visitors.

Ancient historical elements, such as the brick houses, an age-old well and a variety of artifacts, are well preserved, intertwining with modern elements such as a coffeehouse and a karaoke bar.

The flourishing tourism trade has attracted many potential business people.

Xue Cuiyuan, from Beijing, has rented a house in Paigang, and he and a business partner are preparing to establish a research studio focusing on aromatic plants.

“Here it is close to the sea, the port and Boao, and it has a profound fishing culture and history,” Xue said. “I think it’s perfect.”

Liu Li, 25, from east China’s Jiangxi Province, is running a homestay in Paigang.

“The BFA has held its conferences near here for many years,” she said. “The infrastructure is great, and I see huge potential.”

A similar situation can be found in the village of Liuke, under the jurisdiction of the Mocun village committee in Boao.

Liuke’s history goes way back. In the old days, when locals needed to travel beyond their villages or outside the province, they had to transfer here. Gradually, the village became a stopover for tourists, hence its name “Liuke.”

In recent years, in answer to the country’s rural revitalization drive, authorities have made efforts to attract tourists to the village with sightseeing and entertainment programs.

For instance, villagers and tourists can admire the beauty of the Wanquan River along a 1.2-km-long “landscape belt.” To attract young people, village authorities have developed programs such as riverside camping and kayaking.

Entrepreneur Quan Kebin has invested in the local tourism sector.

“We have a rich culture here, which is definitely attractive to visitors,” Quan said. “The tourism development here can generate job vacancies for locals, especially for young people, who traditionally go to big cities looking for jobs.”

Wu Shuxian, the homestay owner, is confident about the future of rural tourism near Boao.

“I hope that more people will come to appreciate the culture and the scenery of our village,” Wu said.

Laos’ National Industrial Park launched

On March 24, the government of Laos and SINO-AGRI International Potash Co., Ltd. (SINO-KCL) held the memorandum signing ceremony of the “Asia-Potash International Intelligent Circular Industrial Park” project in Vientiane, which indicates that the government-enterprise cooperation project is about to get off the ground after more than one year’s preparation.

Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment of Laos Khamchanh Vongsenboun and SINO-KCL’s Executive Director and General Manager Tong Yongheng signed the memorandum on behalf of both parties, respectively.

The signing ceremony was also attended by representatives of the Chinese Embassy in the Lao PDR, relevant authorities, including the Prime Minister’s Office, line ministries, Bank of the Lao PDR and Laos-China Cooperation Committee.

Representatives of Khammuan government, Xinhua News Agency Vientiane branch, Lao Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Vientiane Chinese Association, ICBC Limited Vientiane Branch, Bank of China Limited Vientiane Branch, and famous Chinese and Lao enterprises also attended the ceremony.

The project aims to promote industrialization, urbanization, and investment in Laos while modernizing agriculture and advancing the service industry. Consisting of three sections: potash fertilizer industrial park, non-potash industrial park, and Asia-Potash Town, the project covers a total area of about 2,000 hectares, with an estimated investment of USD 4.31 billion.

It will leverage the advantages of Laos government support, mineral resources, power energy, and labour and land cost to spur Laos to form an industrial pattern of import substitution and export for earning foreign exchange.

Relying on the enterprise’s potash ore resources, the potash fertilizer industrial park is poised to expedite the growth of the potash fertilizer industry and achieve a production capacity of 3 million tonnes by the end of 2023, 5 million tonnes by 2025, with plans to eventually reach 10 million tones.

The industrial park embodies a vision to establish the enterprise as Asia’s leading producer and processor of potash fertilizer and to propel Laos toward the world’s fourth-largest potash fertilizer production base.

The Non-potash Industrial Park conducts investment attraction with resources such as coexisting minerals of potash mines, coal mines, and bauxite to develop the way of utilizing industrial chain and supply chain for resources and produce high value-added and diverse product clusters.
