Vientiane: The 9th National Youth Congress officially commenced in Vientiane, chaired by Monxay Laomousong, an Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Central Committee. The congress was attended by key figures including Mr. Bounthong Chitmany, a Politburo Member of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the Lao PDR, alongside senior officials and representatives from various organizations.
According to Lao News Agency, Mr. Monxay emphasized in his opening remarks that the congress aims to review the implementation of previous directives and goals set during the 8th National Youth Congress. Delegates will evaluate achievements, address shortcomings, and discuss challenges faced in previous efforts. The congress will also focus on approving the Third Five-Year Youth Development Plan (2026-2030), updating Youth Council regulations, and revising the regulations of the 9th Youth Organization to better align with current circumstances. Additionally, the delegates are tasked with reviewing the leadership and inspection work of the 8th Central Executive Committee and electing the 9th Central Executive Committee to oversee future resolutions.
Thongly Sisoulith, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, delivered a draft political report highlighting the activities and accomplishments of the past five years. He noted that youth organizations have performed their roles with dedication, guided by the resolutions of the 8th Congress. Lao youth from various ethnic groups have shown patriotism and loyalty to the Party, significantly contributing to the nation’s development and defense.
The report also focused on enhancing the organization of the Central Committee, preparing young members for future leadership roles, and improving efficiency. It acknowledged the achievements made while addressing existing weaknesses and their causes. The report set forth the direction for youth work over the next five years (2026-2030), aiming to encourage active participation from Lao youth in national construction and defense efforts.
