Manila: The 14th ASEAN Skills Competition has officially commenced in Manila, the Philippines, starting on August 25, 2025, and is set to continue through August 28. This event gathers participants from ASEAN member countries, showcasing talents across 32 professional fields within six sectors. Notably, Timor-Leste is participating for the first time in this significant regional competition.
According to Lao News Agency, representing the Lao PDR is a delegation led by Phongsaysack Inthalath, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Welfare. The team includes experts and national skills competitors from Laos, who are vying in five professional categories: electrical installation, carpentry, food technology, web technology, and graphic design.
In preparation for the competition, the organizing committee, along with experts and coaches, conducted regular training sessions for the Lao participants. These sessions focused on enhancing advanced technical skills, ensuring adaptability to competition rules, and completing tasks within the specified time constraints.
