Some 309 new infections and four new deaths attributed to Covid-19 have been recorded nationwide over the past 24 hours bringing the total to 28,849 including 6,947 active cases and 30 deaths, according to the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.

Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Rattanaxay Phetsouvanh told a press conference today that these new infections were among 3,600 people tested for Covid-19 yesterday.

Of the new confirmed cases, 303 were classified as local infections and six as imported cases with Vientiane sharing the majority of local transmissions at 119, followed by Vientiane (province) 49, Luang Prabang 32, Xaysomboun 26, Savannakhet 22, Champassak 21, Khammuan 20, and Bokeo 12. Borikhamxay and Saravan reported one locally transmitted case each.

The six new imported cases were reported in Savannakhet and Vientiane – three each.
