Bicol Region Mayors Support President Marcos’ Directive on LGU Clearance for Infrastructure Projects

Legazpi city: Local chief executives in the Bicol Region have expressed their support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s new policy requiring local government unit (LGU) clearance before declaring infrastructure projects as completed. The initiative is expected to enhance transparency and ensure that funds are utilized appropriately.

According to Philippines News Agency, Legazpi City Mayor Hisham Ismail emphasized that the directive would allow for proper oversight, ensuring that citizen needs are met and funds are accurately allocated. The city engineering department will play a crucial role in overseeing projects, enabling the public to verify that they meet necessary standards before acceptance.

Bato, Catanduanes Mayor Juan Rodulfo noted that the president’s instruction would aid local executives in effectively monitoring infrastructure projects. He stressed the importance of consulting mayors at every stage of the project to minimize substandard outcomes.

Guinobatan, Albay Mayor Gemma Ongoco highlighted the administration’s commitment to involving LGUs in the process. She stated that the policy would help prevent project overlap and ensure efficient use of government resources. Ongoco also emphasized the need for residents to be informed about projects impacting them and for local officials to be aware of funding sources.

Rapu-Rapu, Albay Mayor Rommel Galicia mentioned that the policy promotes transparency, allowing citizens to participate in development. Through local boards and civil society organizations, community members can voice concerns and propose project ideas.

Mayor Rey Bragais of Tabaco City, Albay, acknowledged the directive’s role in ensuring LGU involvement in local projects. However, he called for clearer guidelines to prevent overstepping authority.

Sorsogon City Mayor Ma. Ester Hamor expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in LGUs, supporting the initiative as a means to guarantee credible projects essential to the community.
