Comelec delists 6K voters in Pangasinan

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Pangasinan provincial office has delisted about 6,000 voters for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE). This was after the electoral board convened and approved the final list of registered voters. In an interview on Tuesday, provincial election supervisor Marino Salas said the deactivated voters were either dead, have transferred, or have failed to vote in the elections twice. Transferees consisted the biggest number of delisted voters, it added. ‘The list of registered voters for the BSKE was already finalized and was posted in conspicuous areas and bulletin boards in the barangays,’ he said. The Comelec earlier ordered the local Election Registration Boards (ERBs) to complete the verifications of the Election Day Computerized Voters Lists (EDCVLs) and Posted Computerized Voters Lists (PCVLs) on or before July 27. Verification of the names of voters and certification and sealing of the EDCVLs and PCVLs was conducted before July 27, and the verified and certified EDCVLs and PCVLs were posted on Aug. 1. Salas said over 60,000 additional voters in the province registered last July, bringing the province’s total to over 2.1 million. Of the total number, 778,000 will vote in the SK elections. ‘Dagupan City, San Carlos City, and Malasiqui town have the highest number of registrants,’ he said. Meanwhile, Salas said the Comelec is conceptualizing through a series of public consultations the launching of the Committee on Kontra-Bigay to fight vote-buying. ‘This is still being conceptualized but it will be implemented soon,’ he said. He added that two areas in the National Capital Region will pilot the automated BSKE polls. Salas said the province’s preparation is now at almost 100 percent with over 20,000 teachers who will serve during the elections in 2,000 polling precincts in the province. The filing of the certificate of candidacy will run from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2, while the election gun ban will be start on Aug. 28 and end on Nov. 14. The campaign period will be from Oct. 19 to 28. The BSKE will be held on October 30.
