MANILA: The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) sought the support of Japan’s new envoy to the country to invite more Japanese companies to invest in the country’s ICT sector.
This came following a courtesy call between DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, Japanese Ambassador to Manila Endo Kazuya at the Sofitel Plaza in Pasay City on April 19, the DICT said in a news release Monday.
The meeting took place after the launch of the National Fiber Backbone Phase 1 led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., where the two sides tackled potential collaborations to boost the country’s digital infrastructure and enhance digital literacy among Filipinos.
Meanwhile, Endo expressed continuous support for the Philippines’ efforts in ICT such as Open RAN (radio access network), cybersecurity, digital terrestrial broadcasting, and ensuring basic telecommunications access.
During the event, Marcos said the project signified a ‘quantum leap’ in the country’s journey towards becoming a truly digital ‘Bag
ong Pilipinas.’
He added that the project is crucial in achieving economic transformation and will be particularly helpful for nano enterprises and micro, small, and medium businesses to enter the digital world to promote their businesses.
