Mario Yumang’s Heartening To See, the longest shot in the five-horse field, ruled the 2023 Philippine Racing Commission (Philracom) 2YO Maiden Stakes at the Metro Manila Turf Club in Malvar, Batangas last Sunday. The chestnut filly by Sakima out of Lemoniscious and bred by the SC Stockfarm held off the late attack of James Anthony Rabano’s Amor My Love (Low Profile-Arriba Amor) by less than a length at the wire to claim the PHP720,000 top prize. This marked the second successful partnership between trainer Christopher “Boyet” Guerra and jockey Peter John “Patar” Guce after last week’s victory with Badboy MJ in the Philracom 3YO Sprint. Guce and his mount stayed close as Benhur Abalos’ top-pick Sonnet Forty Three (Ulitimate Goal-Facil Katana) and Feliciano de la Cruz’s Bravemansgame (Lemon Drop Title-Coloured Veil) battle for the lead. Amor My Love and Upscale Bell (Sakima-Upscale Storm) were far behind. Heartening To See attacked in the final 75 meters, taking the lead from Sonnet Forty Three on the way to victory. Amor My Love came in second followed by Sonnet Forty Three and Bravemansgame. The 1200m event was clocked at 1:13.2.
