Bacolod city: International hotel destination, Citadines Bacolod City, has entered into a partnership with leading renewable energy firm First Gen Corp. to supply 800 kilowatts (kW) of geothermal power, as per an agreement signed on Tuesday. The agreement signing was spearheaded by Arlene Sy Soriano, head of Sales and Engagement at First Gen, and Caleb Han, the general manager of Citadines Bacolod City.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 800-kW power supply will be utilized to energize the hotel’s 200 rooms along with its facilities. These include five amenity areas, five food and beverage outlets, a business lounge, meeting rooms, and a grand ballroom. The geothermal energy will be sourced from the Unified Leyte Geothermal Power Plant, operated by Energy Development Corp., a subsidiary of First Gen.
Soriano expressed that First Gen is honored to partner with one of the largest hotels in Bacolod City as they advance in their decarbonization journey. She emphasized that transitioning to renewable energy and reducing carbon intensity is a feasible goal for any business. Soriano stated, ‘First Gen’s mission statement is to forge collaborative pathways for a decarbonized and regenerative future. This mission cannot be accomplished by ourselves. We definitely need to collaborate and partner with like-minded customers such as Citadines Bacolod City.’
Citadines Bacolod City, managed by The Ascott Ltd., highlighted its dedication to sustainable operations and a greater reliance on clean energy. Han remarked, ‘We are committed to upholding sustainability through eco-friendly operations and efficient energy consumption. Our partnership with First Gen allows Citadines Bacolod City to be powered by renewable energy, helping us reduce both our energy intensity and carbon footprint.’
