Jakarta police seize three trucks carrying illicit drugs

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Narcotics Division of Jakarta Police reported that cops had seized drug packages loaded onto three trucks in Bekasi City, West Java Province.The evidence of this drug offense has been secured, noted Senior Commissioner Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesperson, in a statement released on Saturday. ndiko said he could not furnish detailed information on the case yet, as the investigation process was underway. “There will be a press conference on the case on Monday (April 10),” he stated. Indonesia is perceived by both domestic and transnational drug dealers as a potential market due to its vast population and millions of drug users. The value of drug trade in the country is estimated to be nearly Rp66 trillion (around US$4.4 billion). In a recent incident, Aceh police officers seized two jerry cans containing 15 kg of crystal methamphetamine. The crystal meth was found by a local fisherman in the Malacca Strait waters off Bireuen District’s Samalanga Beach on April 1, 2023. “The crystal meth was found by a fisherman who happened to go fishing about eight miles away from Samalanga Beach on April 1,” Bireuen Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Mike Hardy Wirapraja stated. In response to the smuggling of illicit drugs by drug kingpins over the past few decades, the Indonesian government has continued to apply harsh punitive action against them.
