Japan Supports Laos in Public Security Development

The Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR Kobayashi Kenichi handed over five kinds of security equipment (72 units in total) to Minister of Public Security Vilay Lakhamfong.

The ceremony was held at the Ministry of Public Security in Vientiane on Jan 25 under the Japanese Grant Aid for the Economic and Social Development Programme for the Lao PDR.

The grant aid of JPY200 million (USD1.77 million) is to be used to provide the Government of the Lao PDR with security enhancement equipment aimed at contributing towards social and economic development by strengthening its capacity to maintain public security.

Following on the 30 patrol cars that were delivered at the first procurement last year, X-ray detectors, Under Vehicle Inspection Device Scanning Systems and other three items were delivered this time. It will be followed by the delivery of 13 SUVs to conclude this Grant Aid.

“Laos will assume the ASEAN Presidency in 2024. It is our hope that the security equipment handed over today will contribute to the safety of the Summit meeting hosted by Laos on that year,” Ambassador Kobayashi emphasized at the ceremony.
