Across the country, the area planted with grapefruits is estimated at 3,620 ha with 2,500 ha, equivalent to 70%, allocated for export purposes, according to Deputy Director General of the Department of Agriculture Mr Sulaphone Inthavong.
The agricultural produce is expected to be supplied by nine domestic and foreign companies in Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Xayaboury, Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Borikhamxay, Savannakhet, Champassak and Attapeu.
Around 50,000 tonnes of grapefruits and melons worth US$50 million are expected to be exported to China in 2022.
