Laos posts 1,291 new Covid-19 cases, four new fatalities

Laos has recorded 1,291 new Covid-19 cases and four new fatalities over the previous 24 hours, bringing the total to 73,738 including 11,537 active cases and 170 deaths, the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control reported today.

The newly reported deaths included three documented in Vientiane and one in Vientiane (province).

Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Sisavath Soutthanilaxay told a press conference today that the newly recorded infections, all classified as domestic infections, were detected among 6,273 people tested for Covid-19 yesterday. The day also witnessed some 795 patients discharged from hospital.

Of the new domestic infections, 615 were reported in Vientiane, 158 in Vientiane (province), 126 in Phongsaly, 64 in Bokeo, 51 in Luang Prabang, 44 in Savannakhet, 32 in Borikhamxay, 31 in Oudomxay and 30 in Xieng Khuang.

Meanwhile, 28 were recorded in Luang Namtha, 24 in Khammuan, 19 each in Xaysomboun and Champassak, 15 in Huaphan, 13 in Saravan, nine each in Xayaboury and Attapeu and four in Xekong.

As of Nov 28, Covid-19 vaccination has reached 6.7 million people with 3.16 million, 43% of the population, fully vaccinated and 3.89 million (53%) administered with first dose, shows data of the Centre of Information and Education for Health, Ministry of Health.

Vientiane and Bokeo have highest Covid-19 vaccination coverage with the number of those fully vaccinated reaching over 71.2 % in the capital and 61.4% in Bokeo.
