Laos has recorded 247 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours including 103 local infections and 144 imported cases, according to the Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Sisavath Soutthanilaxay.

The local infections included 42 cases reported in Savannakhet, 29 in Bokeo, 18 in Luang Namtha, 5 each in Vientiane and Oudomxay, and 4 in Luang Prabang.

Of the imported infections, 52 cases were reported in Savannakhet, 36 in Champassak, 25 in Saravan, 16 in Vientiane, 14 in Khammuan and one in Bokeo.

The new cases, detected among 3,740 people tested for Covid-19 yesterday, have raised the total in the country to 14,351 including 4,928 as active cases and 12 deaths.

Over 4 million people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 as of Aug 25, according to the Centre of Information and Education for Health, Ministry of Health. The vaccinated included 2.27 million given first doses and 1.72 given second doses.
