Some 223 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded nationwide over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 17,905 including 4,266 active cases and 16 deaths.
The new infections were among 5,233 people tested for Covid-19 yesterday, according to the Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Sisavath Soutthanilaxay.
Of the new confirmed cases, 158 were classified as local infections and 65 as imported cases. The imported cases were reported in Savannakhet 27, Vientiane 19, Champassak nine, Khammuan four, Luang Prabang and Saravan three each.
The local infections included 17 reported in Khammuan and two in Vientiane. Recent data shows that the number of local infections in several provinces is increasing.
