NDRRMC: Families affected by shear line, LPA top 81K


The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday reported that a total of 81,050 families have so far been affected by bad weather due to the presence of a shear line and a low pressure area.

In its latest disaster bulletin, the agency said the number which is equivalent to 307,087 individuals are from 503 barangays in five regions — Calabarzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Caraga.

As of this report, 3,670 families or around 5,831 individuals are being served inside 104 evacuation centers and another 9,080 families or 37, 834 persons being aided outside.

The Office of Civil Defense earlier said the affected families included those displaced and those not needing transfer or removal from their residence.

The NDRRMC also reported that some 31 houses were reported damaged in Bicol, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has warned of a “significant amount of rainfall” in the next
three days over some areas in the country due to a shear line.

Around 100 to 200 mm. of rainfall will pour over the provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate, Biliran, Northern Samar and Eastern Samar until Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Bicol, Mimaropa, the southern portion of Quezon, Aklan, Capiz and Northern Samar will experience 50 to 100 mm. of rainfall from Wednesday night to Thursday night.

The provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora and Quezon will experience 50 to 100 mm. of rainfall from Thursday night to Friday night.

Meanwhile, Northern Samar’s Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that one died in a landslide in Ynaguingayan village, Pambujan town in Northern Samar caused by the incessant rains.

Lara Cabidez, more than 50 years old, died when she was hit by a falling tree when a landslide occurred in their area past noon Tuesday.

Flooding has affected 1,506 families or 2,765 individuals in 11 villages in Pambujan.

Meanwhile, Northern Samar Governor Edwin On
chuan declared that all classes in public and private schools and work, except for banks and other financial institutions, and health and food-related establishments, remained suspended on Wednesday.
