MANILA: The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) warned the public against scammers promising to expedite their transactions with the agency in exchange for a sum of money.
In a statement Wednesday, OCD administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno said these unscrupulous individuals and groups use his name for procurement scams and fake funding applications to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (NDRRMF).
He added that scammers are using forged, falsified, or fictitious documents to convince their intended victims.
‘We would like to caution everyone against the unscrupulous activities of these individuals. We urge the public to be vigilant and not to fall prey to their schemes,’ Nepomuceno said.
He also reminded the public that all transactions and/or issuance of any documents from the agency are being processed through its official channels and authorized personnel only.
It is also encouraging the public to report any suspicious transactions to the agency and authorities.
The OCD added i
t has sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to identify and apprehend these scammers.
