PCO seeks to increase ‘The Philippine Gazette’ readership

MANILA: The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) is eyeing to expand the distribution of the ‘The Philippine Gazette’ newspaper to reach a wider audience and raise awareness about the Marcos administration’s policies and programs.

Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil announced that the Bureau of Communications Services (BCS), an attached agency of the PCO, bought a brand-new two color Sakurai Oliver 226SI/SIP to improve the bureau’s printing capability and boost the government’s communications services.

‘It is the first time the BCS has acquired a brand new printing machine. It is also fully automatic, making it a very user-friendly machine for the pressmen, according to the bureau,’ Garafil said in a statement on Wednesday.

Garafil said the brand-new two color Sakurai Oliver 226SI/SIP printer was delivered by Ferros Systemas Corp. on April 10.

The new printing machine procured by the PCO-BCS is an ergonomically-designed press with a solid frame and bed structure that can provide straight and perfe
cting modes of printing that can deliver up to 12,000 impressions per hour.

Citing the PCO-BCS’ statement, Garafil said the new equipment will be instrumental in expanding the reach of The Philippine Gazette, the flagship tabloid newspaper launched by the Marcos administration in May last year.

Garafil said the bureau is excited to ‘inform, empower, and engage more Filipinos of the President’s activities towards a more transparent and dynamic public governance.’

On May 24, 2023, the PCO and the BCS led the distribution of a free copy of The Philippine Gazette at the Recto, Cubao and Santolan stations of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) – Line 2; Philippine National Railway’s Tutuban station; and Manila North Harbor Terminal and Victory Liner Terminal in Pasay City.

The newspaper launched by the current administration serves as a bridge to inform Filipinos about the programs and projects of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The PCO is the communications arm of the executive branch tasked to engage and involve
the citizenry and the mass media in enriching the quality of public discourse on all matters of governance.

It is responsible for crafting, formulating, developing, enhancing and coordinating the messaging system of the Executive branch and the Office of the President.

The PCO-BCS, on the other hand, provides and develops communication services relating to policy formulation, communications planning, project development, research and evaluation, and coordination of information planning within the framework of the overall thrust and priorities of the national development plan.
