Digital technology is expanding at a rapid rate and is a crucial key for the development of all sectors, especially in areas of administration and the development of human resources.
It is aimed for a shared, standardized and connected system, to avoid repetitive costs of investments.
Such transformation can be seen through the activities of the e-Government Center, which is to improve government operations, bring government services to the people by utilizing electronic communication in service delivery, with the aim to enhance efficiency, convenience, speed, security, transparency and economical aspects of such work.
The workshop witnessed the honorable participation of Vice Minister of Home Affairs Khammoune Viphongxay and was co-chaired by Regional Director of SDC Jean-Francois Cuénod, and Head of Governance Unit, UNDP Sean O’Connell
Vice Minister Khammoune said, “From listening to the presentations and exchanging of ideas, I would like to emphasize the importance of integrating information into a one-stop-shop, aiming for effective and effective public administration.”
Ministry of Home Affairs as an aide to the government has been attempting to reform procedures and services quickly and efficiently throughout the exchange in ASEAN several times.
On behalf of UNDP, Mr. Sean O’Connell, Head of Governance Unit, further expressed that “Digitalization should not aggravate the existing digital divide. The government services we transform to digitalization should ensure to target the most vulnerable in society, to leave no one behind as we move forward and try and achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. To narrow the digital divide, we must invest in the infrastructure to give vulnerable groups access to basic ICT, so that they can avail of digitalized services, in accessible formats, and in rural areas of the country.”
On this occasion the Vice Minister expressed his gratitude to partners namely, UNDP and Switzerland for their support on initiatives such as; the Personal Information Management System and until date- the availability of Smart cards for civil servants which has been launched for use across the country.
