CAAP reports completion of Davao Airport runway repair

MANILA: The Davao International Airport’s runway rehabilitation project was completed on May 7, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Wednesday.

CAAP, however, said “some portions need minor rectifications wherein works will be conducted during the daytime when there are no flights in close coordination with the air traffic control tower.”

CAAP said the notice to airmen for this project will be lifted on May 9, or once all remaining concerns are addressed.

It can be recalled that the runway has been closed from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. since January 29. Closing period was reduced to four hours from six hours to minimize impact on operations.

CAAP initially eyed May 31 to complete the project, and later on announced the new target for completion is by the first week of May.

The project includes the removal of a 2-inch thick damaged asphalt pavement; the application of an emulsified asphalt tack coat; the laying of a hot bituminous mixture; and the repainting of affected runway markings.
