PICPA sees AI as opportunity to improve, advance accounting profession

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) said Thursday they view artificial intelligence (AI) as an opportunity to advance their skills and improve their profession rather than a threat.

Speaking about AI during a press conference at the Villa Isabel Hotel in Sorsogon City, PICPA national president Randy Blanza said they are taking steps to make CPAs in the country more sophisticated than computers.

“We are more than willing to take that opportunity to outgrow the challenges. This is one of the main objectives of our national convention for us to be always ready. With (regards to) AI, sustainability and quality assurance are some of the topics that we are always discussing and training ourselves para makasabay po kami sa mga (so that we can keep up with) technology advancement,” Blanza said.

He added that with the holding of different technical sessions and training, they want to ensure that CPAs remain relevant to nation-building.

“Kakailanganin at kakailanganin niyo pa din ang m
ga CPAs (You will still need CPAs),” he said.

At least 3,500 certified public accountants are in Sorsogon province for their four-day 78th Annual National Convention that began on Wednesday with the theme ‘Redefining the Roles of Certified Public Accountants.”

PICPA comprises four sectors: government relations, commerce and industries, academe, and public accountants.

Blanza said Sorsogon was chosen as the venue for this year’s convention to showcase the province’s mystic beauty and potential.
