733 new Covid-19 cases, three new fatalities recorded

Some 733 new Covid-19 cases and three new deaths attributed to Covid-19 have been reported nationwide over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 126,066 including 8,223 active cases and 500 deaths, according to the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.

Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control, Ministry of Health Dr Sisavath Soutthanilaxay told a press conference today that some 4,597 samples were tested for Covid-19 yesterday. The day also witnessed 344 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals nationwide.

Of the new infections, 730 were classified as domestic transmissions and three as imported cases.

The domestic infections included 222 in Vientiane, 67 in Phongsaly, 62 in Borikhamxay, 60 in Oudomxay, 52 in Huaphan, 36 in Vientiane (province), 35 in Xayaboury, 29 in Xaysomboun and 28 each in Xieng Khuang and Luang Prabang.

As of Jan 17, over 4.65 million people, representing 63.38% of population in the Lao PDR, have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, according to the Department of Communicable Diseases Control.

Meanwhile, over 3.81 million people, representing 52% of population have been given all recommended doses of Covid-19 vaccine.

Covid-19 vaccination is available nationwide at central and provincial hospitals, Chinese Temple (Vientiane), Lao ITECC (Vientiane), district hospitals, and other Covid-19 vaccination facilities designated by Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.
