Normal train arrives to ease increasing demand for Laos-China train travel

A regular train arrived at Vientiane Station of the Laos-China Railway on Feb 18 to ease rising demand for train travel among passengers.

Associate Engineer of the Laos-China Railway Company Mr. Vongthong Suvanthong said that the regular passenger train will be operated on the Laos-China Railway at a speed of 120 km per hour. The train will be put in to service in March 2022.

The fare for the new train will be 30% cheaper than that of the two high-speed electric multiple unit trains (EMUs) currently in service.

Between Dec 4, 2021 and Feb 13, 2022, the Laos-China train transported 124,225 passengers (1,721 passengers per day). Meanwhile, the freight train has operated 290 trips, carrying 157,568 tons of cargo (2,188 tons per day).

Mr. Vongthong Suvanthong said that the Lao-China Railway also plans to increase the number of trains so that customers do not have to wait to buy tickets.

LCR currently employs over 1,200 people, including 675 Lao nationals.
