Northern Samar government seeks daily flights to Catarman

TACLOBAN: The Northern Samar provincial government has asked Philippine Airlines (PAL) to fly seven days a week from Manila to Catarman in Northern Samar and vice-versa, given the growing number of tourists in the province.

The possibility of having daily flights from Manila to Catarman was discussed when Governor Edwin Ongchuan and PAL officials met on Jan. 17, the provincial government said Friday.

‘The daily flights will not only provide convenience to travelers but, more significantly, boost the local economy with the opportunity for greater investments and livelihoods from the influx of tourists,’ Ongchuan said in a statement.

PAL increased its Manila-Catarman flights to five times a week in September last year.

The local government requested PAL to cover Mondays and Saturdays, too.

Among Northern Samar’s tourist magnets are the Biri Rock Formation in the island town of Biri, island town of Capul, Pink Beach on Sila Island in San Vicente, Lulugayan Falls in Silvino Lubos, Macagtas Dam in Catarman, C
anawayon Island in Lapinig and natural lagoon in Mapanas.
