ASEAN-BAC calls for boosting trade, investment with Japan

Chair of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) Arsjad Rasjid has said that the close partnership between ASEAN and Japan over the past 50 years will accelerate the strengthening of economic integration and the establishment of a free trade area, and enhance competitiveness in the global market.

In his statement on June 10, Arsjad stated that the ASEAN-Japan partnership will accelerate liberalisation and facilitate trade in goods, services, and investment in the region.

Japan remains a trusted dialogue partner of ASEAN, Arsjad said, adding that Japan, as an ASEAN strategic partner, will work together with ASEAN-BAC to create a stronger platform that supports Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to innovate collectively through technology and adapt to dynamic changes.

Arsjad and the ASEAN-BAC delegation are in Tokyo as part of the Indonesian leadership roadshow for ASEAN-BAC in 2023. Previously, Arsjad also conducted roadshows in Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei, Myanmar, Laos, and the UK.

In addition to his meeting with Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Nishimura Yasutoshi, the ASEAN-BAC delegation is scheduled to engage in dialogues with business association leaders, including the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), SME Support Japan (SMRJ), Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Japan Association of Corporate Executives (Keizai Doyukai), Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), ASEAN Japan Centre, MUFG Bank, Japan Chamber of Commerce (JCCI), Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC), and PayPay./.

Role models nationwide honoured

The Central Council for Emulation and Rewards held a conference in Hanoi on June 11 to honour role models nationwide, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal for patriotic emulation.

The event attracted the participation of 700 delegates representing exemplary collectives and individuals in various regions and sectors.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who is also Chairman of the council, said on June 11, 1948, President Ho Chi Minh issued the appeal for patriotic emulation, officially launching a nationwide movement to foster a spirit of patriotism within the entire Party, people and army.

Since then, it has truly become a widespread movement, extending from the lowlands to the islands and mountain and border areas. It encompasses both urban and rural areas with the active participation of people from walks of life, and has achieved significant results.

The role models, regardless of age, position or profession, shine with a spirit of patriotism, dynamism, creativity, daring to think and act, and taking responsibility for the common good. They exemplify determination, resilience, aspirations for progress and dedication to the community and society, he said.

On the occasion, he asked departments and agencies to effectively follow the Party and State’s policies and laws on emulation and reward, step up start-up and innovation movements, develop green, digital and circular economies.

Emulation movements must be in tandem with the Party building and rectification, the campaign on studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and lifestyle; prevention and control of corruption, wastefulness, and negative phenomena; judicial and administrative reform. At the same time, national cultural identity must be preserved and upheld while external affairs and global integration must be stepped up, the PM noted.

Also at the event, the honourees told their own stories, highlighting their spirit of determination, self-sacrifice, wholeheartedness, and dedication to the country and people. They expressed their commitment to continuing to be role models in life, work, study, and contributing to the national development.

The PM also presented certificates of merit to 75 role models in various areas at the event./.

Russian National Day celebrated in HCM City

The Russian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City on June 10 held a ceremony celebrating the 33rd anniversary of the National Day of the Federation of Russia (June 12, 1990 – 2023).

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc emphasised the growing traditional relations between the two countries.

The statue of President Ho Chi Minh built with Russian friends’ support about to be inaugurated in Saint Petersburg city demonstrates the attachment between the two countries, contributing to strengthening the trust of generations of the two sides in the propsect of the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, Duc said.

The Vietnamese people always remember wholehearted support of the people of the former Soviet Union in the years of struggling for national independence and reunification as well as in the later socio-economic construction and development, he said.

Vietnam attaches importance and gives priority to developing relations with Russian – its first comprehensive strategic partner in the Doi moi (renewal ) process, Duc added.

Vietnam and Russia have issued a joint statement on the vision of their comprehensive strategic partnership to 2030 which is the foundation for further consolidating the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.

The city leader highlighted the sound relationship between between Ho Chi Minh City and Russia, with numerous cooperation activities in trade, tourism, and delegation exchange.

The city highly appreciates the efforts of the Russian Consulate General in promoting friendship and cooperation between the city and Russia’s ministries, agencies, and localities, he said.

For his part, Russian Consul General in HCM City Sadykov Timur Sirozhevich affirmed that the Russian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City will continue to do its best to develop a cooperative and friendly relations between Russian partners and the city, contributing to strengthening relations between the two countries.

Ho Chi Minh City has established friendly and cooperative ties with five Russian localities – Sverdlovsk province, Saint Petersburg city, Moscow city, Moscow province, and Vladivostok province. Russia currently has run 58 investment projects in the city with a total capital of more than 56 million USD./.

Quang Tri ceremony marks 50th establishment anniversary of historical relic site

A ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the headquarters of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam (June 6, 1973-2023) was held in the central province of Quang Tri on June 10.

Attending the event were Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Bui Thi Minh Hoai, and veteran revolutionists and Heroic Vietnamese Mothers.

Fifty years ago, right after the Paris Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam was signed, to fulfil domestic and foreign policy requirements and tasks, and prepare for the general offensive to liberate the South and reunify the country, the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam moved its headquarters from Tay Ninh to the liberated zone in Quang Tri. This is an important milestone in the nation’s resistance war against American imperialists.

On May 1, 1972, Quang Tri was the first province of the South to be liberated, thus helping erase the line dividing the country, and making it become an important area both politically, militarily and diplomatically.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy PM Khai stressed that the relocation of the headquarters to Quang Tri demonstrated the strategic vision of the Party, enhanced the symbolic value of the will and aspiration for peace and national reunification, and at the same time, promoted the role of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam and strengthened its political position in the international arena,

The Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam affirmed its political role in the international arena, making very important contributions, together with the country’s army and people, to make the resistance war a victory.

On this occasion, Deputy PM Khai and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Hoai offered incense to commemorate the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed in the 81-day fight to protect the ancient citadel of Quang Tri, and to pay tribute to the fallen heroes who are resting in peace at the Road 9 National Martyrs’ Cemetery and Truong Son National Martyrs’ Cemetery./.

16 people arrested in Dak Lak police headquarters attack

The police of the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak arrested 16 people involved in the gun attack in Cu Kuin district as of 4:30pm on June 11, said the Ministry of Public Security’s spokesman Lieut. Gen To An Xo.

Relevant agencies also successfully freed two hostages. The third one managed to run away.

Competent agencies are searching for other accomplices who joined the attack.

Earlier on June 11 morning, Xo said according to the Dak Lak provincial police, an unidentified group of individuals used guns to attack the police headquarters in Ea Tieu và Ea Ktur communes in Cu Kuin district on early the same day, resulting in the death and injury of several police officers, communal officials and civilians.

Xo said the ministry has directed competent agencies search for other accomplices who joined the attack.

He also urged people in Cu Kuin district and neighbouring areas to stay calm and follow the instructions of local authorities and police.

In Cu Kuin district, communes are directed to mobilise all personnel on duty, and local people are encouraged not to go out, and to report to the local authorities immediately when detecting strangers.

The province and the district have visited those who were injured and families and the deceased in the attack./.

Son La plum to be served on Vietnam Airlines flights

Plum grown in the northwestern province of Son La will be served on in-flight meals on Vietnam Airlines flights.

The provincial People’s Committee on June 10 organised a ceremony to mark the transportation of plums grown in Phien Khoai commune, Yen Chau district to Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.

The Noi Bai Catering Services Joint Stock Company (NCS) and Vietnam Air Catering Services Joint Stock Company (VINACS) have bought over one tonne of the plum to use as dessert for air passengers.

Last year, Son La longan was chosen to serve as dessert on Vietnam Airlines flights, contributing to raising the brand and value of local typical agricultural products.

Vice Chairman of Son La provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong said that the production, collection, and preservation process of Son La’s key agricultural products in general, and plum in particular, ensure the requirements in quality, food safety, and others for domestic and export markets. The presence of Son La plum in meals served on Vietnam Airlines flights helps affirm the quality and brand of Son La’s agricultural products.

Currently , the province has nearly 85,000 ha of fruit with a yearly output of over 452,000 tonnes. Specifically, it has over 12,300 ha of plum, producing nearly 90,000 tonnes yearly. Son La plum is harvested from April to July. In 2021, the plum was granted a certificate of trademark registration with plum grown in Pu Nhi commune (Song Ma district), Moc Chau district, and Phieng Khoai commune (Yen Chau district)./.
