7 E. Visayas roads impassable due to floods, debris flow DPWH


Seven roads in Eastern Visayas are not passable to all types of vehicles due to flooding and debris flow, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Tuesday.

Based on its latest situational report, the agency said vehicles are not allowed to pass through Catarman-Calbayog Road specifically at Brgy. Poblacion, Lope De Vega; Catarman-Laoang Road at the municipality of Mondragon; and Catarman-Laoang Road at Brgy. Bantayan, San Roque, all in Northern Samar.

Calbayog-Catarman Road at Brgy. Tarabucan and Brgy. Nabang in Calbayog City, Samar; Arteche-Jipapad-Las Navas-Rawis Road at Brgy. Bigo, Arteche, Eastern Samar, are not also passable. The alternate route is Imelda, Lapinig-Jipapad Road.

The DPWH said also not passable to vehicles due to debris flow is Pangpang-Palapag-Mapanas-Gamay-Lapinig-Arteche (Boundary) Road in barangays Nipa, Maragano and Cabatuan in Palapag, Northern Samar.

On the other hand, three roads not passable to light vehicles due to flooding are Poblacion-Trujillo Road a
t Brgy. Quezon, Bobon, and Catarman-Laoang Road at Pambujan in Northern Samar.

Only motorcycles are allowed in Pangpang-Palapag-Mapanas-Gamay-Lapinig-Arteche (Boundary) Road in barangays Talolora and Paysud in Palapag, Northern Samar. Alternate routes are Brgy. Cabariwan to Brgy. Paysud, and Palapag to Brgy. Cabariwan.

Only light vehicles are allowed in one lane of the Daang Maharlika (San Isidro-San Juanico Bridge) Barangay Palanit, San Isidro, Northern Samar due to soil erosion.

DPWH Eastern Visayas field personnel are continuously monitoring road sections that are affected by flooding.

It said necessary measures to ensure the safety of the travelling public are currently undertaken.

Heavy rains are being experienced in the region due to the shear line and the northeast monsoon.
