72 Bacolod public schools get computer sets

The city government here has distributed 184 desktop computer sets worth PHP18.3 million to 72 public learning resource centers. Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said Wednesday the assistance for the 72 recipient schools under the Department of Education Schools Division of Bacolod (DepEd-Bacolod) aims to help improve the quality of education for public school learners here. “Electronic equipment and gadgets are no longer a luxury. These are already a necessity, especially for students,” he said. Benitez said each school received at least two computer sets. Funded by the Special Education Fund, each desktop computer set, which comes with a printer and uninterruptible power supply device, costs PHP99,470. Of the 184 desktop computer sets, 92 units were given to various elementary schools while two units went to an elementary extension school. Also, 46 units were received by junior high schools and 38 units were given to senior high schools as well as four units to farm schools and two units to the division library hub. Meanwhile, Benitez said he is eyeing a transformative plan for the development of Bacolod City College through the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). From the current student population of around 3,200, the mayor said the aim is to double the capacity through distance learning education for students who cannot be accommodated on-campus by exploring CHED-accredited distance education options and identifying areas for expansion of skills training. “It is important to make BCC a relevant institution that equips students with skills relevant to the job market,” he added
