A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday at Liaodu Chinese School, Vientiane, kicking off the construction of a new secondary school building that can accommodate about 1,200 students.
The ceremony was attended by Head of the Chanthaboury District Education and Sports Office Thongdy Keomisay, President of the Overseas Chinese Association Leng Savanvaly, Director of the Liaodu Chinese School Sompasong Chanthavong and teachers.
“The construction project is funded with a financial grant of US$ 800,000 (approx. 9.5 billion kip) from the alumni, general public, Chinese people in Laos and overseas, and funds of the Liaodu Chinese School,” said President of the Chinese Association Leng Savanvaly.
“The building will have four storeys with 28 classrooms. Its construction is expected to be completed within one year,” said Mr Leng Savanvaly.
The new school will be able to guarantee the safety of students and teachers and accommodate more students. The school also plans to build a university in the future.
Founded in 1937 by Chinese Lao people in Vientiane. In its early years, the school hired a building. In 1966, well versed Chinese people pooled their money to acquire 13,000 sq m of land to build a new school building which has been used until today.
The school teaches bilingual curricula – Chinese and Lao – for kindergarten up to high school students.
