President Thongloun meets with Yunnan’s leader

On Jun 16, Party Secretary General and State President Thongloun Sisoulith received on Jun 16 a courtesy call from Party Secretary of Yunnan Province and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the provincial People’s Congress Wang Ning in Nan Ning, Yunnan, China.

During talks, President Thongloun appreciated the achievements in socio-economic development, especially rural development and poverty reduction in Yunnan and highly valued the relations and cooperation between the two Parties, governments and peoples of Laos and China as well as the cooperation between Laos and Yunnan Province, noting that Yunnan is considered as a door connecting Laos with China.

He said that the Chinese province has economic potentials and its concrete results of cooperation are increasing in number. Since the launch of the Laos-China Railway in late 2021, the communication and cooperation between the two countries have been increasingly thriving and timely.

Yunnan has invested in major projects strategic to both Laos and China including the Vientiane-Laos-China border highway, and has maintained sound cooperation on trade, education, agriculture, energy among others, with the Lao PDR.

The President called on Yunnan Province to strengthen relations and cooperation with the Lao PDR with respect to the implementation of the guidance of the Party and government leaders of the two countries and deepening the implementation of the master plan on building a Laos-China socialist community with a shared future, encourage relevant authorities to continue to implement the results of Wang Ning’s visit to Laos in March 2023, attach importance to cooperation on human resource development, and explore potential cooperation projects to promote win-win cooperation thus strengthening the relations and cooperation between the two Parties and governments of Laos and China.

In reply, Wang Ning highly valued the visit of President Thongloun and considered it as a contribution to strengthening the traditional relations and cooperation between the two Parties, governments of Laos and China, as well as the relations and cooperation between Yunnan and the Lao PDR.

He assured the President that he will continue to work with the Lao side to implement the agreements reached by top leaders of the Party and governments of the two countries so as to strengthen the traditional relations and cooperation in the spirit of building a Laos-China community with a shared future to bring concrete benefits to peoples of the two countries.
