Wildlife trafficking prevention and control planning discussed

The World Wide Fund for Nature in Laos (WWF-Laos) has organized in cooperation with the Department of Forestry Inspection, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry a meeting to discuss an activity plan of the wildlife trafficking prevention and control project.

The meeting was held on Monday at Napakuang Resort, Keo-udom District, Vientiane Province and co-presided by Deputy Director General of the Department of Forestry Inspection Luomkham Sengchan-oudom, and WWF-Laos Country Director Loris Palentini.

Representatives from the Department of Forestry Inspection, Office of Public Prosecutor, the court, Environmental Police and relevant authorities attended the meeting.

The purpose of this meeting was to strengthen the capacity of local authorities and promote the implementation of strategies and approaches to the prevention and control of domestic and transnational wildlife crimes.

It also aimed to ensure that law enforcement agencies are capable of investigating thus leading to effective prosecution of aquatic and wildlife laws at the provincial, central and international levels.

The project is being implemented nationwide in collaboration with the Forest Inspection Department, the World Wildlife Fund in Laos (WWF-Laos) and the Wildlife Law Enforcement Coordination Network in 18 provinces across the country from 2021 to 2025.
