ASEAN and Chinese media strengthen cooperation

ASEAN Media Partners Forum 2022 was held today with heads of media organizations from China and ASEAN member states attending the event via face to face and online means.
Hosted by China Media Group (CMG) in cooperation with the Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, the forum was attended by CMG Vice President Yan Xiaoming, Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Deng XI Jun, Minister Delegate Attached to Cambodian Prime Minister and Secretary-General-Designate of ASEAN Kao Kim Hourn, Director of CMG Asian and African Pregramming Centre An Xiao Yu, and Secretary General of the ASEAN-China Centre Chen Dehaai.
Information Minister of CambodiaKhieu Kanharith, President of Philippine-BRICS Strategic Studies Herman Tiu Laurel, Director General of Lao Press in Foreign Languages Thonglor Duangsavanh, and Deputy Director General of the Lao News Agency Somboune Keosayachak also attended the meeting.
“As an influential international mainstream media organization and China’s state-owned broadcaster, CMG has enhanced exchanges and conducted fruitful cooperation with media outlets in ASEAN countries over the past years. We established a partnership with ASEAN media partners, launched the Lancang-Mekong Open-air Cinema and the ASEAN Youth Video Contest, produced the documentary Amazing Southeast Asia, and issued a joint statement aiming at strengthening cooperation between CMG and ASEAN media partners. Such cooperation programs have brought us closer with deeper friendship,” said CMG Vice President Yan Xiaoming.
“Currently, we are planning to build a China-ASEAN media harbor together with Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, establish a base for the entire media industrial chain that serves China and ASEAN countries, in order to create a new platform for international communication in the region,” he added.
“The development of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership cannot be achieved without the active participation and support of media organizations on both sides. In recent years, bilateral media cooperation has seen better-developed mechanisms, richer contents and more diversified forms, and the media organizations on both sides have become an important force in promoting and championing China-ASEAN friendly exchanges, practical cooperation and harmonious coexistence,” said Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Deng Xijun.
He urged media organizations of both sides to better leverage the potential of media cooperation in the joint endeavor to build a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable homeland.
Director General of Lao Press in Foreign Languages Thonglor Duangsavanh said that Laos’ English daily Vientiane Times has proudly partnered with Chinese media outlets to promote Laos and China as well as ASEAN-China cooperation in various fields, such as trade, ICT, the digital economy, education, public health, environment, culture and information, as well as the media sector.
“I believe that media organizations could actively step up cooperation to promote ASEAN and China’s common goals of peace and stability in the region through the gathering of intelligence to foster collaboration and cohesiveness. This will further enhance the close ties between ASEAN countries and China,” said Mr Thonglor.
The ASEAN Media Partners Forum is a new form launched by CMG to promote exchanges and cooperation between Chinese media organizations and their counterparts in ASEAN countries.
