Rural development, poverty alleviation, three build directive reviewed

A meeting was held in Vientiane on 14 Sept to review the implementation of the political building strategy at the grass-root levels, rural development and poverty reduction programme and the devolution strategy from 2016-2021 and outline plans until 2025.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party who is also the President of the Lao PDR, Mr Thongloun Sisoulith, politburo members, the Party Central Secretariat and relevant sectors.
“Party and government always pay attention to build and improve political grassroots linking with development work especially integrated rural development and reducing poverty in rural areas under the Sam Sang directive” Vice President Bounthong Chitmani, said told at the meeting.
In recent years the government has spent 248 billion kip on 943 projects to improve infrastructure and promote agricultural production in 109 villages of the 51 districts under the Sam Sang directive.
The Sam Sang directive aims to build up provinces as strategy-making units, districts to be strengthened in all regards, and villages to become development units.
Over the past six years, almost 14,000 families nationwide have been lifted out of poverty line.
